Our first day was a sea day, sailing through the Strait of Messina - between the Italian mainland and Sicily.
It is only just over 3 kms wide, making for an impressive transit - especially in a ship as large as the Sky Princess at 143,700 GT.
Just before reaching the Strait we sailed past Stromboli, which is very much active as can be seen from the picture. The town at the foot of the volcano seems to be a precarious place to live!
