Our only port of call in the Philippines was Puerto Princesa, on the southern island of Palawan.
Our excursion was to an underground river cave system on the north-west coast. To reach this was a 2 hour bus ride each way and a 30 minute canoe ride each way. It was well worth the trip though, as the cave system is a World Heritage listed site and is very well kept and run by the locals.
The trip through the river cave was great, with some interesting formations and several huge chambers. We only went in approx. 1.5 kms and the total cave system is around 24 kms so it is much bigger than what we managed to see.
Returning to the ship we were treated to a sail away song and dance display by local children - very interesting and they enjoyed themselves immensely.
