Our first stop was in Bintulu, which is on the island of Borneo, but it is part of the state of Sarawak in Malaysia. We have never been here, which will be the same for most of the ports on this cruise.
Lots of new ground to explore!
The port is very much an industrial area, being the base for oil and gas fields off the coast. We were greeted by local people in very colourful costumes and were keen to explore the national park on our tour.
Unfortunately, the tour was a bit of a letdown as the walk was extremely difficult - so much so that we had to give up and return to the office. Still, it was an experience.
When we got back to the town we took the shuttle into the city centre and had a nice time just looking around and sitting with a drink and a cake.
It seems to a very prosperous city, probably due to the natural resources being developed.
